August 2024 Dive ‘N Dine Recap

Barb reports: “We had a wonderful weekend minus rain on Friday night. ”

The Diving:  On Thursday morning, three of us went freediving to check out the cove for Friday scuba diving. Visibility was good at around 20 feet.  We saw lots of abs and some trophy abs near shore in an area that had a lot of seaweed.  We also saw a ling cod, many rockfish, and perch.  Further out, it became an urchin desert.

On Friday, four of us did a scuba dive… the visibility had deteriorated to five feet near shore (as there was a small storm coming in) and at best 20 feet in the deeper water which was largely an urchin desert.  The rain started around 8:00 pm on Friday and the divers decided to bail on Saturday morning as we knew the vis would be worse.

The Social:  We enjoyed hikes to the waterfalls and along the bluff at Mendocino. We celebrated Larry’s 84th birthday with cake and champagne courtesy of Jane, Rolf, and Nancy.
We walked to the beach every night for the beautiful sunsets.  Amazing!

Dining: The food was amazing as usual. Mike contributed his smoked beef on Wednesday night, we had a Mexico theme for Friday, and both Barb and Ellen hosted margaritas as Charlie could not make it.  Sean served up Caprese Salad and Nancy cooked up her famous chili and more.

It was a weekend of diving and dining!
