  • Tiffany Duong: The Tela Coral Documentary: “The Rebel Reef: Seeds of Hope”
    Meeting
Tiffany T.V. Duong – via Zoom
    10/14/26 7:00 pm – 8:45 pm

The award-winning short feature documentary, The Rebel Reef: Seeds of Hope, profiles a vibrant coral ecosystem off the coast of Tela, Honduras, that mysteriously defies standard marine science by thriving in conditions such as warmer, cloudier water that typically destroys reefs elsewhere.

The story parallels that of Christian Carias, known as the “Aquaman of Tela” and the area’s only local divemaster, intertwining the reef’s survival with his personal recovery from a near-fatal motorcycle accident.

The documentary, which will be screened at our October 14th meeting, is tied directly to the advocacy and scientific work of Tela Coral, co-founded by executive producer Tiffany Duong and lead scientist Dr. Juli Berwald.

After a life-changing scuba dive in the Galápagos inspired her to leave her career in corporate law as a renewable energy attorney, she’s built a life and interdisciplinary work spanning policy, science, art, and solutions-focused media with award-winning storytelling.

With training in international development and environmental law, she brings strategic rigor, mindful integration, and creative vision to every project.

    About Tiffany Duong
Tiff is a multi-hyphenate creative who moves seamlessly between film, journalism, immersive media, and live storytelling.

She has travelled extensively throughout the world to share her experiences to foster the protection of our oceans and planet.

    • Is an active writer for many publications, including Scuba Diving Magazine (PADI Club), Alert Diver, and more.
    • Is the co-founder of both Tela Coral and The Seabirds, a nonprofit, all-women expedition team that leads expeditions and educational programs that help diversity the face of exploration by changing who gets to participate.
    • Lives in service of people and planet, helping others to reconnect with the ocean through expeditions, stories, science, and a healthy appreciation for a good (mis)adventure.

Join us to welcome Tiff via Zoom from Spain at our October 14th meeting in Sausalito.

    Tiffany T.V. Duong
Compelled by a scuba diving trip to the Galapagos Islands, I left a successful renewable energy law career to campaign for our oceans and planet. This journey has taken me to the ocean’s depths and the densest jungles.
