Barb Wambach, John Lewis, Robert Nelson, and Niles Szwed enjoyed diving the Beachhopper II in Monterey the weekend of July 11-12.

Barb wrote: “Super fun weekend, vis below 35 feet was great!  Best vis was at 80 feet on Sunday… at least 60 feet.

“Huge thank you to Robert for laying his reel line so the rest of us could focus on the beautiful scenery!

Niles added, “Yes, I think that the viz was from 30′ to 50′ on Saturday. Very good sculptural sense of the underwater landscape. Especially on that first dive as we moved away from Metridium Mountain towards those outlying ridges.

Metridium Forest

“On the second dive, very pleased that we got some sunlight. Nice section of scattered kelp forest and little clearings, between 43′ to 28′ deep. Highlight was seeing those two sheepsheads! Massive! Saw the first one while shooting video through a crack between two boulders. Saw a small section of his thick body swim by. So thick that I thought it might be a porpoise at first. Until I looked over the top of the boulder and I was able to ID it correctly.

“Anyhow, very pleasant day. leisurely meanders on both dives.”
